Lam enjoyed a career that spanned decades and continents, while living through many of the dramatic socio-political events of the 20th century. He was recognized in his time (1902 - 1982) as one of the few accomplished artists of colour in the largely European modern art movement that included cubism and surrealism. During this time, he also befriended notable artists including Picasso and Andre Breton. His story is told through a poetic exploration of his rich and diverse heritage.
